WRITING THE BOOK OF ESTHER

Henri Raczymow
translated by Dori Katz

"A powerful and frightening novel: obsessive, ironic, super-articulate, technically brilliant. An intellectual as well as imaginative achievement ... a book about lost time darker than that of Proust."
—Geoffrey Hartman

"A novel of extraordinary power ... Raczymow gives voice as much to our stuttering inability to remember as to the injunction that we must never forget."
—Jerusalem Report

"Raczymow's powerful and haunting novel ponders the world's inaction in the face of the impending Holocaust, as well as the scarring effects of the Nazi genocide on the younger generation of Jews whose parents survived it ... Raczymow forcefully confronts the dangers of historical amnesia and personal indifference."
—Publishers Weekly

Henri Raczymow was born in France in 1948 and lives in Paris. He is the prizewinning author of several novels as well as works of nonfiction. This is his first novel to be translated into English.
